Here are the planned stops along the way. 3,100 miles, 7 days of 8 hours driving. Now, the famous Don Street of the Caribbean sailing guides always said to make a detailed plan of your journey, then the day you leave, just tear it up and throw it away, as plans never workout anyway, so why try to fool yourself. Yep, been my experience, so far.
8 hour drives: The plan is to drive 4 hours, stop for a lunch break, shop for foodie supplies for the drive & dinner, then drive 4 more hours and have a picnic dinner in the hotel, blog, drink, and crash out. We'll be towing Mrs. Bean and she'll have the picnic basket, coolers, and clothes in her, so we can just grab the gear when we get to the hotel without having to open the truck.
Weather On Route: I checked http://weatherspark.com/ for the history of WX conditions at various places along the route. I'm not much bothered until we get to Rocky Mountains and that is one reason we are heading out in late October and not January. By then I should have driven myself into a deep coma, so will probably enjoy the challenge of sliding through the mountains driving a U-Haul truck pulling a trailer.
Likely WX conditions: 100% chance we'll hit rain and thunderstorms along the way, with a 30% chance of Snow crossing the mountains. Temperatures should not be bad, as in above freezing. There should be some high winds in the high desert in Idaho and Oregon - just for fun. Of course it will be getting dark earlier in the day as we get north, so much will be in the dark.
